see the single ‘Dutchies’ in particular. It’s heart-wrenching drama, epicly layered electronica…pretty much everything you want in six and 1/2 minutes of music.
the soundtrack of our lives
Sweet and heavy all rolled into one, Pretty Lights is the musical vision of the ultra-versatile Colorado based producer Derek Vincent Smith, accompanied in the live setting by drummer, Cory Eberhard. They are churning out the crankin’ dub sounds with lush layered vocals rounding out the sound. Dubstep scene pioneer Kode 9 explains how it’s not that dubstep is dead, it’s just that as it has grown it has gotten “blurry and muddy and ….interesting”
DJ Kuze and MC Child - beautiful dreamy jungle beats make me feel energized and sleepy all at once
Jay-z - Roc Boys
And the winner is Hov…my man? SPEECH!First of all I wan’ thank my connect
The most important person with all due respect
Thanks for to duffle bag, the brown paper bag
The Nike shoe box for holding all this cash
Boys in blue who put greed before the badge
The first pusher whoever made the stash
The Roc Boys in the building tonight
Oh what a feeling I’m feeling life
Thanks to the lames, niggas bad aim
Thanks to a little change I tore you out the game
Bullet wounds will stop your bafoonery
Thanks to the pastor rapping at your eulogy
To Lil Kim and them, you know the women friend
Who, carry the work cross state for a gentlemen
Yeah, thanks to all the hustlers
And most importantly you, the customer
[Chorus: Jay-Z (Kanye West)]
The Roc Boys in the building tonight
Oh what a feeling, I’m feeling life
You don’t even gotta bring ya paper out
We the dope boys of the year, drinks is on the house
(We in the house, hou-, hou-)
The Roc Boys in the building tonight
Look at how I’m chilling, I’m killing this ice
You don’t even gotta bring ya purses out
We the dope boys of the year, drinks is on the house
(We in the house, hou-, hou-)
(We in the house, hou-, hou-, HEY)
Let ya hair down baby, I just hit a score
Pick any place on the planet, pick a shore
Take what the Forbes figure, then figure more
Cause they forgot to account what I did with the raw
Pick a time, lets pick apart some stores
Pick a weekend for freaking for figure fours
I figure frauds never hit a lick before
So they don’t know the feeling when them things get across
Put ya hand out the window, feel the force
Feel the Porsche, hit the frost
Ice cold, jewels got no flaws
Drop got no top, you on the top floor
Pink Rosay, think OJ
I get away with murder when I sling yay
Niggas got less steps then Britney
That means it ain’t stepped on, dig me?
[Chorus (with overlapping 3rd verse towards end)]
Red Porsches, rare portraits
Red glocks if you dare come near the fortress
This apple sauce is from the apple orchid
This kinda talk is only reserved for the bosses
Which means I get it from the ground
Which means you get it when I’m around
Rich niggas, black bar mitzvahs
Mazel tov, it’s a celebration bitches, l’chaim
I wish for you a hundred years of success but it’s my time
Cheers, toast to crime
Number one b-boy, chain nigga rhyme
[Chorus x3]
Sweet, let that ride out!
Bring the horns back in, yeah
This is black super hero music right here baby
American Gangsta
Taking flight, coming to a town near you
Soon as I touch down I just want ya’ll to start playing the horns like…
Hovies home…Lukey baby
Hahahahaha…ow!
OMG I just cannot get enough of the XLR8R podcasts - they really try and cover the gamut of electronic music from electro to breaks to house, with lots and lots of special love reserved for my favorite - dubstep. If you have a newer iPod, the podcasts show track listings as they are playing, along with some nice graphics that change track-by-track. The track listings are a major feature improvement, IMHO.
My recent favorites are:
Jahdann Blakkamore - a 20 minute foray into dancehall, dubstep and sweet sensei stylings with a serious whomp on the backend.
Chavy Boys of London - that sweet B’more sound - ‘Baltimore club music has a rep for being energetic, but from the sounds of this mix, which is primarily just that, the Chavy Boys of London must keep an entire fridge stocked with Red Bull—and pound a few down when commissioned to do DJ mixes for music websites”.
Tonight the leather-and-feathers crew are takin’ it to the next level, dolling up 103 Harriet to get ready for the dubstep show of the ages. In case I haven’t mentioned it before, Dubstep is blowin’ up these days and tonight will be no exception. The headliner is Grey Filastine, described by An-Ten-Nae as “a musician/producer based in Barcelona but rarely found there. Filastine bangs out his music, jumping between a tangle of electronics, acoustic percussion, and an amplified shopping cart, firing off rhythms and synchronized live video. Reminiscent of the murky drama of Ninja Tuners like Amon Tobin and DJ Food, Filastine feels like a thrillingly tense interaction between these ideological factors and the gold-toothed, whip-riding luxury of hiphop culture!!”.
See you on the dance floor!
Your computer just became a drum kit with an Amen Break
I just found the best website EVAH! (thanks Sasha Frere-Jones) - Check it out at http://www.ronwinter.tv/drums.html - screen shot above.
This site turns your keyboard into the coolest drum kit - each letter you hit sounds a different drum beat - each one super dope, and the devil’s head at top returns the classic Amen break. Have fun wasting the rest of your work day on this one!!!
Come Around - Collie Budz
Straight sweet sensi music…..it don’t matter if you smoke or not, this song can take you there.
